OOC: I'm just posting this here for now, I'm too sleepy to figure out if there is a non-warriors board yet haha. I'll repost on the correct board at a later time. /OOC
Mave sat on the edge of her wooden bed, surrounded by the flickering of candle light. She watched as the warm glow danced across her hands as they rested on her flat belly. She breathed steadily, glancing away from her hands only to look at the single curtain-covered window in her one-room home. Bottles, scrolls, maps and jewels littered her counters, stacks of books collected dust in the corners while one lay open on a table next to her bed. She adjusted to sit more comfortably, placing one hand back on her stomach. She looked back at the window just in time to see the light blue fabric moving gently.
“Scry?” Mave squinted her eyes for a moment, then startled when a dark brown cat jumped onto her bed. “I-“
“Don’t.” His voice rattled in her head as he looked at the shadows on the floor.
“Look at me.”
“You swore complete honesty, Mave,” he glanced at her with golden eyes.
“I didn’t know until today.”
“You didn’t know about that,” he nodded to her stomach “but I had no idea you had even—“
“I was embarrassed. I still am,” Mave’s words began shaking along with her chin.
“So, you knew him two whole weeks before he took you to bed, if you met him when you first arrived in Gael. Unless you’ve been hiding things from me for longer than that, which is undoubtedly impossible.” Scry finally looked her in the eyes and flitted his tail.
Mave shoved the cat off her bed and gritted her teeth.
“How is that any of your business?”
Scry caught himself and dug his claws into the sandy floor “I’ve known your laying down and your rising since you were born-- how are matters of your heart not my business? I’ve sworn to protect you, and you I, and that oath will serve neither of us if we do not know the details of our comings and goings. I would never hide a lover from you, it would only endanger my life.”
Mave covered her face with her hands as she began to sob. A moment later she felt Scry’s warmth near her again, only this time she sensed sorrow in his presence. His mind was fully hers to see, no walls to be found, nor nooks or crannies that he would not willingly allow her to search. Mave let down walls in each sob and breath, allowing her companion access to the rest of what she was hiding from him. He didn’t push too far—he would never see things that weren’t necessary to their bond and their safety, even though he had access. She continued to weep as they both closed their eyes to find the tiny, warm life ebbing inside Mave’s womb.
